Answer 8 quick questions and get a setup that fits your home: which device to use, cable or WiFi, how many connections you need, how much internet speed, and which player features to look for.
Quick answer: for most homes the best IPTV setup is a streaming stick or box on each TV (Google TV, Fire TV, Apple TV or Nvidia Shield), connected by cable where possible, with one connection on your plan for every stream you watch at the same time.
Plan for the busiest moment: two TVs plus one channel on a phone is 3 connections. Four channels on one TV is 4 connections, and needs a fast box such as an Nvidia Shield.
Made by RunTV. This advice works with any IPTV player. If you want up to 4 channels on one TV at once, run from your phone, RunTV is a free player for your own M3U or Xtream login, with no ads, on Google TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, phone and computer. It doesn't record shows yet.
A streaming stick or box beats the apps built into most smart TVs: more players, faster updates, better remote apps. Google TV and Android TV boxes run the widest choice of IPTV players. Fire TV works well but some players must be installed with the Downloader app. For 4 channels at once, a strong box such as an Nvidia Shield handles it best. Cheaper sticks are fine for 1 or 2.
Every stream playing at the same time uses one connection on your plan: each TV, each phone, and each extra channel in a multiview layout. Add up your busiest moment. Two TVs, one of them showing 4 channels, is 5 connections.
Allow about 10 Mbps of steady speed per HD stream and about 25 Mbps per 4K stream, then add them up. Leave some room for everything else in the home. Steady speed matters more than the peak a speed test shows.
A network cable is the most reliable way to watch live TV. If the router is in another room, use the 5 GHz WiFi network or a mesh point near the TV. Weak WiFi is the most common cause of buffering.
An Xtream Codes login (server, username, password) usually gives the most: live channels, guide, movies, series and catch-up. An M3U link works in nearly every player. A MAC address portal only works in players that support portals, so ask your provider whether they also offer M3U or Xtream details.
No player does everything. Recording (DVR), a full TV guide, multiview, phone control and no ads are spread across different apps, and some of those features are paid upgrades. The advisor lists which ones you asked for, so you can check them before choosing.
